For many years, if you wanted to do work over $250,0000 for the Florida Department of Transportation, you had to submit a CPA audit within four months of your fiscal year end. An audit can be a very expensive and time consuming endeavor. The FDOT has revised their requirements. More of their work can now be done with a “Reviewed” CPA statement which is much cheaper than a full audit. Indeed, effective July 1, 2012, applicants seeking prequalification to bid on road and bridge construction projects up to $1,000,000 can apply by submitting financial statements by a Certified Public Accountant. All other requirements of Rule 14-22, F.A.C. still apply. Therefore, the application and financial statements must be submitted within 4 months of the applicant’s fiscal year end. The times they are a changing. You can’t mail in the application. You can’t fax in the application. You can’t deliver the application. Applications must be submitted online at www3.dot.state.fl.us/ContractorPrequalification/
